Open Questions and Future Directions in Titan Science
A synthesis of the current state of knowledge about Saturn's moon Titan at the close of the Cassini-Huygens era and the major open questions that define its future study. Students learn how understanding of Titan has been built from four complementary approaches - telescopic observation, laboratory work, computational modeling, and spacecraft missions - and survey twenty high-level open questions spanning Titan's origin and building blocks, its interior differentiation and subsurface ocean and habitability, its surface geology (dunes, fluvial and lacustrine features, cryovolcanism, tectonics, clathrates), and its atmosphere (composition, organic haze and tholin chemistry, circulation, prebiotic chemistry, and long-term stability), together with the observations, experiments, and models that could resolve each.
