Out-of-stock product page handling is the rule for what happens to a product page when the item is unavailable. A temporarily sold-out product keeps its page live, marks availability as out of stock in markup and feed, and offers alternatives; a permanently discontinued product is 301-redirected to its closest replacement, or returns 410 Gone if nothing comparable exists.
