Overview of Immunodiagnostic Testing in Immunology

Immunodiagnostics comprise the laboratory methods used to assess immune system components in patients with suspected immunological conditions, spanning infection, immunodeficiency, allergy, autoimmune disease, and transplantation. Key formal concepts include seroconversion (the appearance of antibodies against a specific pathogen, indicating infection/exposure), quantitative and qualitative measurement of immune parameters in immunodeficiency, allergen sensitization testing in allergy, detection of autoantibodies and autoreactive T-cells in autoimmune disease, and HLA matching in transplantation. This positions immunodiagnostics within immunology as the clinical assessment framework linking specific immune components to specific disease categories.
