Pubis Anatomy: Superior and Inferior Pubic Rami

In gross anatomy, the pubis is the anterolateral bone of the hip bone, whose body unites with its contralateral counterpart at the pubic symphysis, and whose superior and inferior rami (the latter joining the ischium to form the ischiopubic ramus) together delineate the obturator foramen. Bony landmarks of the pubis—the pubic crest, pubic tubercle, and pecten pubis (forming the pelvic brim)—along with the anterior tilt of the hip bone in anatomical position, define the pelvis's structural orientation and its greater/lesser sciatic foramina (formed via the sacrospinous and sacrotuberous ligaments).
