QUEST: Bayesian Adaptive Threshold Estimation
QUEST is an adaptive psychophysical procedure that maintains a Bayesian posterior over the threshold parameter of an assumed psychometric function. After each response the posterior is updated and the next stimulus is placed at its current best estimate, so trials concentrate where they are most informative. Compared with fixed-step staircases it converges faster but depends on the assumed function shape and prior.
