Rayleigh Scattering

Elastic scattering by particles much smaller than the wavelength, in which the induced dipole re-radiates at the incident frequency with an intensity scaling as the inverse fourth power of wavelength. It is the overwhelmingly dominant scattering channel and the source of the enormous unshifted line a Raman instrument must reject.
