Rescue Breathing

Rescue breathing delivers air into the lungs of a person who is not breathing adequately, using mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-mask, or a barrier device after opening the airway. Pinch the nose, seal your mouth over theirs (or over the mask), and give a breath lasting about one second — just enough to make the chest visibly rise, avoiding forceful over-inflation. Rescue breaths matter most in oxygen-deprivation arrests such as drowning and in children. Rescue breathing is provided as part of a response that always includes calling emergency services first.
