Briefly blocking gap junctions in a planarian can produce worms that regrow two heads, and those worms keep regenerating two heads after later cuts, with an unchanged genome. The stored target appears to live in a physiological state that outlasts the intervention, which is a strong claim with a correspondingly careful experimental record.
