Rotor Thickness Variation

Disc thickness variation (DTV) — the rotor being thicker at some points around its circumference than others — is what the driver feels as pedal pulsation, since the pads are squeezed apart and released every revolution. It develops from installed runout wearing one region, or uneven pad-material deposits, which is why runout and bedding both matter.
