Scalable 3D-Bioprinted Human Liver Discoid Tissue Models for Drug Testing
A 3D-bioprinting method that fabricates disc-shaped (discoid) human liver tissues about 200 micrometres thick and 1-3 mm across, printed into a permeable packed-microgel support medium at up to 100 tissues per hour with roughly 4% diameter variability. Over three to four weeks the discoids self-organise, stably secrete albumin and urea above spheroid-model levels, express over 100 ADME-related genes within the human-liver range, and enzymatically metabolise test compounds, supporting pharmacological and toxicological applications.
