Scene Safety Assessment
Scene safety assessment is the habit of pausing to check for hazards — traffic, fire, electricity, water, unstable structures, aggressive people or animals — before approaching someone who needs help. A responder who becomes a second victim helps no one and doubles the emergency. If the scene is not safe and you cannot make it safe, stay back and call emergency services with a clear description of the hazard.
