Signal Conditioning Integrated Circuits for LVDT and Thermocouple Sensors

Signal conditioning integrated circuits are off-the-shelf chips that replace discrete-component circuits to correct sensor-specific nonidealities and produce a clean, standardized output: for an LVDT, eliminating null-voltage offset and input-output phase difference via ratiometric decoding of the two secondary voltages; for a thermocouple, generating an internally compensating voltage that substitutes for an impractical physical ice-bath reference junction; and for general transmission, converting a voltage signal into an isolated standard current signal via transformer-coupled modulation/demodulation. This belongs to industrial instrumentation's signal-conditioning layer, sitting between a raw electromechanical or thermoelectric sensor and a control/telemetry system that requires a linear, isolated, or current-loop-compatible signal.
