Simple Reaction Time Measures Baseline Processing Speed

In a simple reaction time task a single stimulus appears after an unpredictable delay and the participant makes one fixed response as fast as possible. The result, typically 200 to 250 milliseconds in healthy adults, reflects sensory detection, motor preparation and execution with no decision component. It is the baseline against which choice, interference and attention effects are measured.
