ST2 Color Center in Diamond for Nanoscale Quantum Sensing

Characterizes the ST2 center, an optically addressable point defect in diamond first observed in natural diamond and reproducibly created by 12C ion implantation above the graphitization threshold followed by high-temperature annealing. Its electronic level structure gives high ODMR contrast and an exceptionally wide acceptance angle for sensing strong, arbitrarily oriented magnetic fields, overcoming the narrow-cone limitation of NV centers and making it a candidate for nanoscale sensing of magnetic and electric fields and temperature.
