Stimulated Raman Scattering Microscopy

When pump and Stokes beams are tuned to a vibrational resonance, energy transfers between them, producing a loss on the pump and a gain on the Stokes beam that is detected by high-frequency modulation and lock-in amplification. Unlike CARS the signal is linear in concentration and free of the non-resonant background, which is why it underpins stimulated Raman histology and metabolic imaging.
