Superficial Fascia, Venous Drainage, and Cutaneous Innervation of the Upper Limb in Anatomy

The upper limb's superficial anatomy comprises a fascial system (superficial fascia containing loose connective tissue/fat and cutaneous structures, deep fascia forming compartmentalizing sheaths such as the brachial and antebrachial fascia via intermuscular septa), a superficial venous drainage system (cephalic and basilic veins arising from the dorsal venous network and converging via the median cubital vein and axillary vein), and a cutaneous innervation pattern organized as dermatomes corresponding to spinal cord segments. Dermatome distribution follows a predictable, developmentally-determined pattern established during limb bud formation, and cutaneous nerves supplying these dermatomes arise primarily from the brachial plexus.
