The Antisaccade Task: Suppressing a Reflexive Eye Movement

In the antisaccade task a target appears abruptly to one side and the participant must look to the mirror location on the opposite side rather than toward it. Errors (looking at the target first) and slowed correct responses index the difficulty of suppressing a reflexive saccade and generating a voluntary one. Performance is sensitive to frontal control and is widely used as a marker of inhibitory control.
