The Implicit Association Test Measures Automatic Associations by Response Latency
The Implicit Association Test asks participants to sort stimuli from two target categories and two attribute categories using shared response keys, in two pairings. Faster sorting when a target is paired with one attribute than with the other is taken as a measure of the strength of automatic association. The score reflects relative association, is sensitive to practice and block order, and has modest test-retest reliability, so it describes a reaction-time pattern rather than a fixed belief.
