The Iowa Gambling Task: Learning to Avoid Risky Decks
In the Iowa Gambling Task participants draw cards from four decks with unknown payoff schedules, two of which give large immediate gains but larger occasional losses and two of which give smaller gains with a positive long-run outcome. Healthy participants gradually shift toward the advantageous decks as they learn from feedback. The task measures decision making under uncertainty and reward-based learning, and was developed to study patients with ventromedial prefrontal damage.
