The Time-Frequency Resolution Trade-Off

The single most consequential setting in spectrographic analysis: a short window resolves events in time and blurs frequency, a long window does the reverse. It is why the same recording yields a wideband picture showing formant bands or a narrowband picture showing individual harmonics, which the next two nodes depend on.
