The Vocal Tract as a Quarter-Wavelength Resonating Tube

Where formants physically come from. A tube closed at the glottis and open at the lips resonates at odd quarter-wavelengths of its length, and those resonances are the formants the reused Idea already names. Kept free of worked magnitudes because no tube-model figure appears in the seed paper and the brief forbids uncited numbers; the relationship is taught as a relationship.

Questions this Concept answers

  • Why does the uniform tube model place the vocal tract's resonances at odd multiples of a quarter wavelength?
