Top-Level Domain Choice and Country-Code Domains in SEO
The top-level domain is the ending of a web address. Country-code domains such as .de or .co.uk tell Google the site targets that country, while generic endings such as .com, .io, or .shop are treated as worldwide. No ending ranks better on its own, but a country-code domain limits reach abroad and a generic one needs other signals to show local focus.
