Views and Surface Features of the Scapula in Human Anatomy

The scapula is a flat, triangular bone whose structure is described through its surfaces (posterior surface divided by the spine into supraspinous and infraspinous fossae; anterior surface with the subscapular fossa), its three angles (superior, inferior, lateral) connected by three borders (medial, lateral, superior), and distinct bony landmarks (acromion, coracoid process, glenoid cavity with supraglenoid and infraglenoid tubercles, suprascapular notch) that serve as sites of muscle attachment, ligament attachment, articulation, or passage of neurovascular structures. This is foundational content in human osteology/anatomy concerning the structural organization of the shoulder girdle and its relationship to the glenohumeral joint and surrounding musculature.
