Weak-Gravity Limit and Dynamical Modes of Quadratic Nonmetricity Gravity
A linearised analysis, around the Minkowski metric with a flat parallel transport, of 'Newer GR' models whose action is quadratic in the nonmetricity tensor. Requiring sensible behaviour of the tensor and vector sectors under spatial rotations fixes half of the free model parameters and constrains the harder scalar sector. From the teleparallel viewpoint the paper shows that STEGR augmented by a gradient-squared of the metric determinant propagates three-halves new dynamical modes, correcting a prior claim of a single extra mode.
