Winter Sowing in Milk Jugs Stratifies Seeds and Hardens Seedlings Outdoors
Sow hardy annuals, perennials and brassicas Dec–Feb in jugs with drain holes and an open cap, then leave them outside. Freeze-thaw stratifies the seed; seedlings emerge when it warms and are already hardened. Keep tomatoes and peppers indoors.
