Wisconsin Card Sorting Measures Cognitive Flexibility and Perseveration

In the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test participants match cards to key cards by colour, shape or number, learning the current rule only from right-or-wrong feedback. After a run of correct sorts the rule changes without warning, and sorting by the old rule counts as a perseverative error. The test measures cognitive flexibility and set-shifting and is sensitive to frontal lobe dysfunction.
