Writing a requireAuth Middleware to Guard Routes

Rather than repeating an identity check in every protected handler, you write one middleware that reads the credential, verifies it, attaches the user to the request and calls next — or refuses. Routes then declare their protection by listing that guard, which makes it visible at a glance which routes are open. Scattering the check instead is how one route ends up quietly unprotected.
